Voivod - Target Earth (2013)

I hate when reviewers write shit like "nothing revolutionary here", as if they were expecting the CD to come with a fucking spaceship custom built by the band themselves, wrapped in an American flag. I do not, never have and never will give a fuck about a band sounding "revolutionary". You wanna know what sounds revolutionary? 'Yankee Doodle Dandy'... that's what! Revolutionary. Bah.

What Voivod's latest album, 'Target Earth', does sound like is kick fucking ass metal performed as only Voivod can. Personally, I like the entire Voivod catalog, so this album isn't exactly some sort of "return" of the band writing good music, to me, although I suppose it's more than a slight return to the band's more spaced out and aggressive tendencies ala 'Killing Technology' and 'Dimension Hatross'. Guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain does a stellar job of channeling the essence of Voivod and I guarantee you that all doubts will be laid to rest upon hitting the play button.

As far as all these gay and pretentious hipster journalists go, stick a feather up your ass and call it macaroni next time you want something "revolutionary", you fucking dolts.
